IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation) The evolution of Intramuscular Stimulation(IMS) and dry needling has happened from traditional Chinese acupuncture, where acupuncture needles are used to target specific areas of the muscles which are injured, tightened or has become weak. IMS is based on the understanding that tightness and shortness in the muscles are the origin of pain in lot of the musculoskeletal conditions. IMS works on the premise that the injuries cause irritation of the nervous structures and can irritate nerves which can cause pain. IMS works on these nervous structures to cause the production of pain-relieving substances in the body to reduce pain.
